WW2 Gunto Real or Fake

Hello all,

I got these inages from a local seller and not sure if the etched characters are sure sign of being a repro. I am not able to read it despite knowing some kanji. Thanks for your expertise!

Completely fake, you won't find etched characters on genuine Type 98. If you check through this forum you will quickly see the disparity of quality between genuine swords and these junk quality fakes.

i would bet that as well, but I don't think its a Type 98 steel tube

Is it even trying to be a Japanese sword, though?  As much of the fittings as I can see, all looks to be civil in style.  The characters look like something more Southeast Asian than Japanese (or plain gibberish).

That was my take on it as well, but I deleted what I wrote.

 

Jacky, if you are looking for a Japanese sword, then this is not it.

We don't have an ongoing thread for Type 94/98 fakes, so I'm posting this here.  I asked myself if there is a chance this one was island made, but the evidence tilts the scale toward fake.  Being sold on this Auction.
