For the first one, I found the same expression here, probably to decorate a Chinese front door for the traditional New Year.

(The big central Kanji 和 means peace/harmony. 'Wa' in Japanese, 'He' in Chinese.)

The Second one is a cut-off piece. It's a poem written by 張繼 from Tang Dynasty， called 楓橋夜泊.

月落烏啼霜滿天
江楓漁火對愁眠
姑蘇城外寒山寺
夜半鐘聲到客船

This piece is from calligrapher 魯山（1937-？）， here is the entire image, you can compare the cut-off parts.

Nice job, Trystan! I was stuck on a dead end on this one (multiple dead ends). Nice to see the original.

 

I found an English translation

 

Maple Bridge Night Mooring

 

月落烏啼霜滿天    The moon descends, crows caw, frostiness fills the sky;

江楓漁火對愁眠。riverside maples, fishermen's lights, facing me in my worried sleep.

姑蘇城外寒山寺，Outside Gusu city lies Cold Mountain Temple;

夜半鐘聲到客船。at midnight, the sound of bells reaches the ferries.

 

Unusual how Grev's friend's piece only contains a part of the bottom lines of this poem (with one of the kanji cut in half). 

Sword fans will spot the words 寒山 (kanzan - cold mountain) in the poem, Kanzan being the name of one of the great sword scholars/appraisers of the 20th century.

Maybe whoever print this piece thought it was too long , and the foreigners don't know what it means anyway
