Loyer Posted March 7, 2023 Report Posted March 7, 2023 Can a member please identify the makers of these two Japanese blades ? I call them #61 and #69 Both found on a WW2 setting. Also please Estimate how old each is ? Loyer Posted March 7, 2023 Author Report Posted March 7, 2023 Thank you so much. I can tell from the corrosion that #61 is much older than #69. Any idea just how old ? Quote
Ray Singer Posted March 7, 2023 Report Posted March 7, 2023 I don't see him listed with exactly that mei, but either unlisted koto smith or perhaps the individual below. MASAMORI (政守), Tenbun (天文, 1532-1555), Yamato – “Nanto-jū Kanabō Sahyōe no Jō Masamori” (南都住金房左兵衛尉政守), Kanabō Quote
Loyer Posted March 7, 2023 Author Report Posted March 7, 2023 Can I assume a blade that old is likely worth a lot on the collector market ? Quote
Ray Singer Posted March 7, 2023 Report Posted March 7, 2023 Not really, no. Value is based on many things including condition, importance of the smith, quality of workmanship, etc. Simply being old does not equate to high value. 3 Quote
Loyer Posted March 9, 2023 Author Report Posted March 9, 2023 I could use some advice. What is the best way to sell a sword when I don't know anything about it except the tang markings and that it is in a WW2 mount ? I would need to maximize the price but don't even know where to start ? Can an old sword be shipped from Canada to USA or Europe ? Quote

Ray Singer Posted March 10, 2023 Report Posted March 10, 2023 Taira is a clan, like Minamoto and Fujiwara. 1 Quote
