Help on Attribution (Mino?)

Dear All

Here is a tsuba that I acquired more that 10 years ago when I was starting my collection. It did not have much of my attention until last friday when I was duing the weekly rotation of the pieces on show on my bookshelves. It does not look that bad when examined up close, not a master piece but an honest one at least. 
Since my interest since then has drifted toward iron tsuba with brass inlay I am out of my comfort zone giving it an attribution.

 

 

It lokks to be made of suaka not yamagane thus the Ko-Mino attribution of the original seller doesn't look on spot. The nanako is very small sized and reasonably regular. The kin-iroe is well executed without smudges. 

The dimensions are, 69 mm x 66 mm with a thickness of 3 mm at the mimi.

My hypothesis is it could me Mino if not Ko-mino or one of those later Edo pieces of undefinable origin.
As I was saying I am out of my comfort zone so any help is greatly appreciated.

Ciao Luca, IMO better than average Kyō-kanagushi, but not as good as expected for a Mino piece. A nice tsuba, whatsoever.

Thank you for posting this, Luca. I am in much the same mind as you when it comes to a guard I own with many similar features. I second Mauro's opinion that it would get Kyo-kanagushi from an organization like the NBTHK.

After looking at the tsuba a 2nd time under double magnification I have some doubts it would get any of the afore mentioned attributions.

Dear Curran. Maybe not being English my mother tongue make me read meanings that are not there... In your sentence I read that NBTHK would paper it as Kyo-kanagushi but you somewhat imply that another organization or authority in the field would not give the same attribution.

Well, Italian isn't my mother-tongue, but I would reply, "cio non e' che cosa vouleva dire..."

I learned by ear, and it has been a long time. Probably I butchered the conditional conjugation of the verb.

 

Still, when I think on it-  it is true that other organizations might go with some slightly different calls. The team members shift, and it is hard to know what the two sides of the NTHK might say these days. I do think Mauro is correct in his statistical approach to this. His records of NBTHK attributions are a great database I wish I had the time and brains to build myself.

I strongly doubt that. --Half a lifetime ago... maybe. But that was a long time ago.

    When it comes to these NMB kantei:  Mauro often posts exactly what I am thinking. I've gotten in the habit of seeing if he has already answered it before I do.
