My guess was Koto and i didn't need a judgement of my guess.

When posting on an open forum, unfavorable responses should come as no surprise. Btw, your throwing out an insult for simple criticism places your thin skin on full display.

I think this blade is not really old. Squared Mekugiana is an very early thing but it is here the highest Mekugiana.
The futatsubi seems later added or the blade is not really Suriage in my Opinion.
I just don’t see the typical signs of reworking the Nakago.
I think it looks like Koyama Munetsugu.

I feel there are some funky things here like strong yasurime at the mune and very much patinated and subdued everywhere else.

I still suspect its a high quality shinshinto piece which was shaped up to sell like koto, but at the same time intrigued by the features especially the boshi. That's not too common in my book of things...

One thing to be cautious about when evaluating a sword is to keep in mind those features that can be a function of polish and fairly easily manipulated apart with those that cannot readily be changed. While recognizing that the current polish is lacking, this bizen-ish sword without the bizen brings to mind for me the Kozori school.

Shinsa? Without a clear boshi don't expect a definitive call.

It was for sale? LOL. Well I suppose everything is for sale. So much for that discussion. Congrats, on the acquisition and subsequent sale! Is that a record for quickest turnover? I hope the new owner sends it to shinsa and reveals its origin.

Now I'm wondering why I spent time and why my friends spent time ... Then you just pop up and say it's gone ....not kosher.

Probably why I stopped helping in here and with the new crop of experts SMH  it's just  pointless.

Back to the funny farm.

Are you talking about the issue at 6:00?

Good eye PS... I was concentrating on the hamon running out not the crack.

Do we think shinsa would have a problem with that?

I haven't seen the crack. I searched for the hamon.

If the buyer is someone on this board - or even a visitor to it - who thought they were neatly pipping everyone else to the post ..... they may well be rueing their haste now and wishing they had waited until the jury was in. 🤣

Thanks for everyones help on this sword. Like I mentioned it wasn't something I had intended to sale. I had it on display at a show, a guy came over and checked it out and asked what I wanted. I thought of a figure and he said I'll be right back. Like 10 min later he came back and paid for the sword.

He said it spoke to him, who am I to stop that. I'm just glad I got some pictures of it before it sold. I'll print them out and put them in my book.

Anyone who does further researching feel free to post. If I own it or not shouldn't stop the flow of studying of information.

I will admit the stupidity of not being able to figure out this blade or having a well defined position on what exactly I see. Initially I thought one thing about the boshi, then exactly the opposite, and then, well it does need more study.

Glad to look at things that challenge my meager knowledge space.

I always enjoy reading your analysis Kirill . You might be right about this one . I know though , that if I had been fortunate enough to stumble across this piece , I wouldn't have parted with it so easily .

In the image posted by Chris the shape of the kissaki looks heavily modified especially as it approaches the yokote….looks to flatten quite a bit…..many chips removed? Hamon looks like it just about creeps back on to give a thin    boshi? Anyone else see that?

You guys are clutching at straws debating things that cannot be resolved since better pics aren't possible.
Owner was made a good offer, so he sold it. That should be the end of the matter.
