Civilis Posted February 14, 2023 Report Posted February 14, 2023 Hi All, I'm traveling from Europe to LA (and Nevada) next month and was wondering if any musea are worth visiting from a Nihonto point of view? Quote
Rivkin Posted February 14, 2023 Report Posted February 14, 2023 The generic personal answer is that California museums are generally half-worth a visit from any point of view. There is Getty's which has a few first tier pieces (you might need an online reservation), and that's it. LA county sometimes runs an exhibit. 2 Quote
Toryu2020 Posted February 14, 2023 Report Posted February 14, 2023 Getty is beautiful - do not remember any nihonto. LACMA sometimes does exhibits and Mike Yamasaki is often a curator. I would also contact the Nanka To-Ken Kai to see if they are having a meeting during your visit... Nanka Token Kai - Southern California Japanese Sword Society | Gardena CA | Facebook -t 3 Quote

Not at all Nihonto, the Wild Animal park in Escondido (about 90 minutes south of LA) has some of the coolest animal exhibits you can see in the US. You can actually see (and feel) a Cheetah run just feet away. John C. 1 Quote
Civilis Posted February 14, 2023 Author Report Posted February 14, 2023 Thank you all, for the tips! Getty's was already on my list for general purposes. Will keep an eye on Nanka Token, but will need some luck there. We're in LA for just a couple of days after which we'll drive to Las Vegas. Escondido will be to far of route I'm afraid. 1 Quote
1kinko Posted February 14, 2023 Report Posted February 14, 2023 Not nihonto but the LACMA holds the Bushell Netuske collection. 3 Quote

1kinko Posted February 24, 2023 Report Posted February 24, 2023 I have no idea and apparently, based on their web sites, LACMA doesn’t either. Pretty pathetic huh? Someone in the LA area should chime in. 1 Quote
