I'm sure we're all familiar with the ebay seller. I've bought several things from them. My last experience was a Rollercoaster to say they least. I bought several things from her and made sure I asked about combined shipping before purchasing.  Long story short she tried charging me an additional $115. Alot of back and forth bickering occured before she agreed she told me she would offer free shipping on those items(they all shipped in the same box)

Fast forward over a month I got the items, the main one being a Naginata. Something sure seemed off about it. Well, when I bought it, it was listed as 47.3cm nagasa. It is in fact 37cm. This is equivalent to buying a Katana and being sent a Wakizashi. Obviously nothing I can do about it. Emails haven't been responded to.

This is mainly for the new guys out there. Keep your head on a swivel and study the pictures carefully and ask questions. I normally do, and when I let my guard down this is what happens.20230210_220328.thumb.jpg.d8211218ffc7b6a25069977d4460e03f.jpg20230210_205512.thumb.jpg.5db0edb28e804e04a574b6f37cf6ce08.jpg

To be fair, the blade length on the tape measure is 37 cm+/-, and the word 'curve' is spelled 'carve', so the likelihood of misprints was there. I hope they have been told, as I am sure it will help them to pull their socks up. Thanks for the heads-up. Hate it when this kind of unnecessary stuff happens. Looks like a nice blade, though!

Matt:

I've been burned several times on Ebay, even though I tried to be careful. But I do have a question: Is the picture yours or from the seller? I was wondering what the measurement would be from the tip around the curve to the ha-machi. Although incorrect, maybe that is how the seller measured it.

That's my picture in the original post, they do not have pictures with measurements(maybe they should start) It is a nice naginata and I do have that going for it. We were negotiating on price for a while on it. After all that time and finally getting it to see its 10cm shorter is definitely a bummer.

Measurement with curvature is just shy of 39cm.

I also had a very unhappy experience with this Japanese seller. I bought the katana in shirasaya (extremely cheaply) on eBay and got an invoice from her which I promptly paid; then waited for the item to be posted. An email procession followed where it was described as "a sample item" and that this sword was not going to be sent. She offered me a discount on two other swords which I refused and as she had obviously made a pricing error on the katana I offered to accept a tanto in any condition instead of that katana; no response to this alternate solution.  After two months was given a full refund of the purchase price.

Will never deal with daimyou54eb again.

Welcome aboard, Clive. Too bad you had an unhappy experience, because Takako isn't usually like that. I've worked with her for more than 10 years, & she has always been upfront on the very few times there's been a screwup.

I've just received 3 items from this seller, no qualms with the description or what I received and she was willing to negotiate a large sum off the initial listing prices.

She posts a lot of items up for sale regularly, so it would stand to reason mistakes may occur here and there. All that said, I'm sorry you gentlemen had a poor experience :(

I have bought many items from Takako, tsuba, tsuka, saya, kogai, kozuka, but never a blade. I have never had any trouble with their items or descriptions. I'm hoping this was a one-off situation.

Wishing you the best,

Dan

Actually, through friends I know the dealer, and in the middle of last month, having read this unfortunate thread, I asked them to pass along a message about it. Hoping it gave the outfit a positive electric shock!

Dear Matt.

Sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience, however, over the years I have kept an eye out for Yoshitake blades and own a couple.  They did very good work and the ones I have seen have always been stunning.  They seem to have produced quite a few polearms of various styles.  If you can bear to I would love to see some more of your gorgeous naginata.

All the best.

I have purchased more than a few swords and sword fittings from them over the years without any problem from eBay and directly. They are a high-volume lower quality dealer. As I mature as a collector, I have purchased less and less from them, naturally selling many things from them out of my collection with my own business. Buying less had nothing to do with their service, which was always great to me, just my natural progression as a collector.

I was doing a fukuro yari search and came across this comment about daimyo54.

https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/35128-sword-with-a-snake/#comment-363410:~:text=I was twice burned by Daimyo54 I pass his listing without looking. Don't waste your money.

We all have to be careful with online purchases and you need to have some trust in the seller's description of the item. I am like b. hennick now and avoid evening looking at that site, one or two other friends are the same now after my experience.

Figured I'd post a follow up to anyone thats is interested.  Takako emailed me back a week after I posted this on here.

She said it was a mix up on her part and what I wanted to do, and that I cannot return it to Japan. I asked if we could work out a better offer on another item I was interested in(gave her the item number) another week went by and she said

Quote

Yes of course! I wish to make better deal with you on an item.

Well, by that time the item was already sold. To date, she has already denied 2 offers I have made and sold them to other buyers(at offer prices that weren't much more than mine) one member purchased one here. 1 item she did counter offer me, but it was $80 off $700... when I countered again the offer sat and expired.

I sent her a lengthy email with screenshots of our conversation. She requested the item numbers I made offers on, and even sent screenshots. Her reply was all those items are sold, and she won't go lower on the other, choose another:freak: I wrote back, and explained our conversation once more. And that was the last.

Stopped wasting my time at this point.

hello I have a little different problem but it's the same seller. I bought a saber on catawiki at a very good price compared to the estimate, everything was fine. 1 month of waiting for papers before sending .... After 3 weeks, the package leaves, the concern is that for some reason that still escapes me, the package has crossed the customs office ems then was sent back to Japan, there she tells me that the Japanese administration will make them wait 8 months before the saber can go back, is that true? Okay and agreement with Catawiki I will have everything refunded but 8 months I think is a long time!? aAfter I was a little scared seeing all the stories about this person.
I hope for the people in the group who are bothered with her that they can have a happy ending like me.

Excuse me Yojimbo but it's not marked either that it's not a great seller! The signature was good, no price reserve or very low, I am not a millionaire, I buy with my budget and again sorry but I liked it, I had a koshirae for the blade and Sorry for not being serious or normal .....
I'm just asking if it happened to me, how should I take it?
