The inscription starts with three small kanji - 

 

併而祈

 

below that, four large kanji - 

 

武運長久

 

Bu-un Cho-kyu - Which as I understand it is a common four character "idiom" from the war years "Continued Luck in War" - the question is the three small kanji at the top - how is it read in Japanese? Shikamo Hei (wo) Inoru? or some such and what would be the best English translation for these three? Any help appreciated,

Dan - how did we find "concurrent prayer"?

Dan, the phrase on your flag is written right to left, so you'll need to put 祈武運長久 into the translator to get a better translation out. 

Inoru buun chōkyū, as Thomas mentioned.

 

As to the other bit - 併而祈 - I don't know. Awasete shikōshite inoru is my guess, but it sounds like its joining two separate phrases. 

Praying for you, and hoping for your good luck in battle? Don't know.

Thank you. Just wanted to make sure. Not that I doubt your reading, but still prefer to see with my eyes.

併而祈 is read awasete inoru. "also praying for...".

On your inscription supposedly there is also some other wish before this part?

I guess concurrent prayer = also praying for. I used a kanji translator and copied and pasted into it. It helps soooo much to have a native speaker to put things into prospective.
