Ray Singer Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 Listing two very nice and well mounted swords on behalf of a local friend (and NMB group members). The first is a very nice ubu, signed wakizashi by Shitahara Shigenobu. This sword has papers by the Living National Treasure polisher Fujishiro Matsuo which identifies this as the smith who worked in Kanbun period (1661). This sword belonged to one of my long-time sword mentors who focused on collecting swords from his local area of Japan (Hachioji). The blade is signed Bushu ju Fujiwara Shigenobu and has the original collector's label on the bag. The sword is in excellent condition with a two piece shakudo habaki and shirasaya. The owner decided to put together a Tensho koshirae with the services of Robert Hughes in Japan, and some very nice fittings were used, including a ko-kinko tsuba from Robert Benson (which I was considering myself for another project. The new owner is selling the Shigenobu for $5k (plus shipping), which is considerably less than the original investment to purchase fittings and have a new koshirae made. If anyone is interested in this piece, please let me know and I will be happy to place you directly in contact with the owner. Best regards, Ray
