Hi there, as the title states would anyone know what type of ww2 Japanese katana this is, I am not sure if it is Type 94 or 98, I don't own it physically so I can't take off the Tsuka, Blade is 69.5 cm, tip to tsuba is 71.5 cm, scabbard is 76cm thanks

thanks for the reply, I never heard of a "Mon", does it symbolize anything?

It is a family crest or "Kamon" rendered in silver and applied to the top of the handle. There are thousands of variations of these Kamon. If this is from an auction house you should be able to request more pictures of the tang and Mon.

thanks for the reply and information about the Mon, yes it is from an auction and no real point asking them as they wont reply fast enough, what would you say would be a good price for this?

That groove/hi reminds me of one on an arsenal Showato. Just guy feel, but the rounded lines don't feel like a well cut one, more machine made.
Guessing. But I wouldn't put much money into it. Bid on it as a mass produced sword and hope for better.
