moss Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Hello all, Has anyone had any dealings with Katsuragi_japan? I guess what I ask is are they straight up ? Thanks in advance Moss Quote
Klop Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Moss, A few moths ago I bought an Edo iron fuchi with some floral engraving from them. It cost me about us $ 8,- , on my request shipped SAL without tracking etc to prevent shipping costs being more than the item itself. It arrived sooner than expected, safe and sound. Communication was OK and no surprises. Of course, with this kind of money I dared to take a chance. No experience with swords or other expensive stuff. Kind regards, Eric. Quote
Henry Stewart Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Moss Recently, say in the last couple of months, Ive noticed one or two differently named small sellers, some Japanese some American based selling items such as Tsuba,Swords and parts of Armour. The only thing in common that Ive seen they have so far is a ludicrously low starting price, and some prices stay low. So far Ive been tempted to two Tsuba and am awaiting the second Wakazashi in shirasaya. Its with great trepidation one approaches such an offer, but so far no nasty surprises. The articles as far as I can tell are both real and genuine. But talk about run of the mill, they most certainly would not light up any gathering but I would say none of them are fake, just nothing special, very ordinary!! Anyone else encountered something like this.? Henry Quote
paulb Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Henry, I think you have summed up the situation very well. The vast majority of items coming out of Japan via ebay are genuine but ordinary. Basically the pieces that cant easily be sold in Japan. Before causing a flood of examples of people picking up good pieces, I accept that there are on occasion one or two good pieces that sell for less than what might be considered their true worth, but generally and as with everything else you get what you pay for. regards Paul Quote
Brian Hancock Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Hi All, The Yari I posted on the board earlier came from him. I've bought a few items from him with absolutely no problems. Brian (H) Quote

moss Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 Hello all, the bits and pieces all arrived no worries,as desribed. Doesn't take too much to keep me happy. Moss Quote
Henry Stewart Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Gentlemen You may recall I was waiting for a Wakizashi after purchasing two cheap but genuine Tsuba, well, its arrived; the Hada is beautiful almost museum quality and the Hamon is a magnificent midare/gunome almost hadori finish and is to almost die for, all topped off by the most wonderful crows foot fracture 4 mm back along the mune from the point. Not visible on the photograph. Ah Well, whats that saying about winning some. All that painstaking work right up to the final cold douse when the smith got the temperatures wrong and fractured the damn thing; yet the biggest mystery--why the hell has a good polisher gone to the trouble of giving it a very good final????? Gunome Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Hello Henry, I heard that apprentices learned polish on lower qualities blades. So if a mistake is less serious than on a blade of value. May your blade is one of these ? Sebastien Quote
Henry Stewart Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Sebastien. Certainly sounds a good way to progress doesnt it. Wish I could identify the polisher, this is some polish. Henry Quote
