Guns Knives and Swords Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 This came into the local gunshop today and now resides with me. I know very little about these except I do think the scabbard is WWII. The tang and Tsuba are both signed. Here are the picture, they will say much more then I can. Quote
Shugyosha Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 Hi John, Might be Ohara ju Sanemori: 大原隹真守 @Michael, there was one with the same name but a slightly longer signature on Grey's website. If you are able to peel back the combat cover slightly without causing any damage, you might find a civilian scabbard underneath. https://www.japaneseswordbooksandtsuba.com/store/swords/s134-wakizashi-signed-hakushu-ju-ohara-sanemori/ 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted January 26, 2023 Report Posted January 26, 2023 Michael, the TSUBA is a cast copy and has no value for collectors. Please avoid cleaning the NAKAGO (tang). Any treatment is a damage! 3 Quote
Guns Knives and Swords Posted January 27, 2023 Author Report Posted January 27, 2023 I had figured the Tsuba was pretty much junk. I see two possible translations for the signature. About how old would you guess this sword to be? Quote
