Peter Bleed Posted January 20, 2023 Report Posted January 20, 2023 This looks to me like quite legitimate Edo period sword. I read it as a older - ie pre-1600 - sword that was cut down for subsequent wear. It is hard to assess quality since it is out of polish, but it looks okay to me - for what it is, a sword of sword worn for travel or interior wear. Peter 1 Quote
Brian Posted January 21, 2023 Report Posted January 21, 2023 It's real. Saya appears to be covered in shagreen....shark skin, as opposed to the rayskin used on tsuka. Agree with Peter. 1 Quote

WillFalstaff Posted January 29, 2023 Report Posted January 29, 2023 I hate to say it, and I might be wrong, but the nakago (tang) looks cleaned which decreases value. Aside from that, its usual for nihonto accoutrement to be added to old blades as the years and centuries go by, so the worth of the sword is in the blade, then in the tsuba, fuchi-koshirae, by-blades, chop sticks, ear wax cleaners, etc. Quote
