A Rustic and Refined Bizen Guinomi

Good morning NMB from NH, USA.

 

Up for grabs today is a wonderful ware from one of Bizen's rising stars, Yokoyama Naoki.  Known for both his modern advances in kneaded Bizen as well as an eye for classic styles such as this one - a suribachi inspired sake cup that harkens back to the everyday wares that brought the style into prominence.

 

The full range of Bizen effects are on display here from the purple body color, flashes of fire color and even goma splattered on the interior.  The roughly folded over foot adds weight and allows the cup to settle into the hand and is reminiscent of a bold uchikaeshi mimi.  This cup also sports a peach-shaped cross section as seen from above, I don't believe this was intentional and it gives the vessel an extra level of charm.

 

A fantastic piece and value that will no doubt impress its new owner, whether it will be used to drink from or simply put on a shelf to display.

 

Comes with its original box, cloth and paperwork as pictured.  Measures 7 x 4.5cm.
