Bridges Posted January 5, 2023 Report Posted January 5, 2023 Hey all, this may be uninteresting to some but I found it interesting. Here is a parade saber and the blade is way shorter than the scabbard length. The second picture shows the end nut has been peened so chances of the blade being replaced is slim but I thought it was an interesting pair. 1 Quote
Bridges Posted January 5, 2023 Author Report Posted January 5, 2023 That’s what I was wondering Dan, it’s a first for me. I’ve never seen a mismatched type 19 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted January 5, 2023 Report Posted January 5, 2023 Even the saya seems longer that usual. Slightly different, but I own a Type 32 that came in a Type 19 saya. The blade is longer than the saya, and the end of the saya was cut to allow the tip to stick through. I think mine was likely done by Bubba, as there are other patch-work and piece-together issues. 1 1 Quote
Bridges Posted January 5, 2023 Author Report Posted January 5, 2023 That’s a find right there Bruce! Quote

I think the points has been quite skilfully reground after a break. Not the issue with a homogeneous steel blade that it would be with a traditional one. 1 Quote
Bridges Posted January 6, 2023 Author Report Posted January 6, 2023 Hey @Dave R, are you proposing this may be a machine made blade in type 19 fittings? Quote

I suppose this isn't in your possession, Noah? Would be nice to know the nagasa and compare to a known Type 19 length. Quote
Bridges Posted January 6, 2023 Author Report Posted January 6, 2023 It’s not @Bruce Pennington, I would not mind purchasing it but the seller is wanting $600 USD for an otherwise basic army type 19. Quote
DTM72 Posted January 6, 2023 Report Posted January 6, 2023 It looks to be a chrome plated parade saber with an etched hamon. I don't think it was damaged and shortened. I still bet on a longer scabbard was put with an original shorter blade...maybe it was to make it look big or maybe the original shorter scabbard was lost and this longer one was found. No telling at this point. 1 Quote
