Hello and thanks again for those who responded earlier. I never did get a definitive answer of what this stamp is. There is no "sho" mark that I can see but there is an inspection mark and signature which I understood to be of "Seki ju Kanemura Kanetatsu Saku" . The more I look at it there are some characters missing and others not present on signatures I have found so this is perplexing. Any insights would be appreciated. TY, James

I looked through 10 pages of the following thread, and didn't find a match. There are additional pages to look through to try for a match. With the large seki stamp at the top of yours, I would guess that your mystery stamp is Kazunori's personal stamp.

The stamp looks like a cho symbol used by, among others, Kobe Steel works. Could also be the mark of a private sword shop. @Bruce Pennington Bruce would have much more information on this topic.

I know we discussed this one, John, but cannot find where we held that discussion.  I vaguely remember it being proposed as a Kobe related stamp, but don't recall getting a consensus from @Kiipu or @BANGBANGSAN on that.  The style and location on the nakago strike me as a forge or company logo.  Religious symbols are found down there, too.  Personal kao are usually located closer to the end of the mei.  At best, I would speak of it as "possibly a company logo, like Kobe steel works, but unconfirmed."

Piers, @Bugyotsuji, thanks for the link!  That's the first Showa stamped Kazunori I've seen.

忠 I was playing with yesterday, also the possibility of some kind of a Chūbu 中部 stamp.

There are two representations of pine needles in ‘Dai’ 大 form, possibly a Mon or Kamon 紋 relation.

Then I turned the lights out.
