jesse Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 Good morning, my wife bought a tsuba for me for xmas. Unfortunately I think she was taken by false advertising as I think this tsuba is a chinese knock-off. Can anyone validate my concerns? Quote
raaay Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 sorry to say you are correct , anyway it is the thought behind it that counts . Quote
b.hennick Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 Chinese fake tsuba. She needs to get a refund. Quote
Volker62 Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 very questionable.......... looks chinese fake one Quote
vajo Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 All the same... the offers came from Japan. If it is a present take it as it is. If you like you can remove the color from the tsuba and patinate it with cold patination to a nice choclate brown or deep black. Those alloy tsuba reacts very good. I made that sword fittings for my son to look more authentic. He loves it. 1 Quote
kissakai Posted December 27, 2022 Report Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) It depends how it was described. As a present it's hard to tell her the truth. If it didn't cost too much I just say I loved it I've seen worse copies Just think how many wives have had to put up with kitchen utensils and that underwear that you were sure they would love!!! jesse Posted December 27, 2022 Author Report Posted December 27, 2022 Folks, thank you for your input and confirming my suspicions. The seller (JP_Yorozuya) as 100% positive feedback, which is suspect. Linda (my wife) bought it around the 8th of December for just shy of $175.00. He has since lowered most of his tsubas down to $124.99. Yorozuya posted it with this: TSUBA Samurai Sword guard Japanese Katana Blade antique Art Edo Collectible Original/Reproduction: Antique Original Region of Origin: Japan I will be contesting this with Ebay. I had a very nice conversation with my wife about the dangers of Ebay and Nihonto items (she's an awesome spouse and supports my addiction so I have that going for me). Thanks for all who responded. Warm Regards, Jesse 1 Quote
jesse Posted December 27, 2022 Author Report Posted December 27, 2022 Chris, I initially made all of the correct statements to my wife as I never would talk down to her in public. Later when we got home I just asked her where she bought it from so I could validate my concerns. I eventually had to tell her the truth because it I hadn't she would have continued to try to buy Nihonto things for me. She previously got me a gift of an Edo era hat. But yea, it's never a good idea to insult your spouse. Warm Regards, Jesse 2 Quote

almeister Posted December 29, 2022 Report Posted December 29, 2022 A couple of decades ago plasma television's were all the go , my Mrs wanted to know why I could buy swords , yet the family couldn't have a 5000 - 10000 $ TV, like all our other friends ? I calmly sat her down , held her hands and explained to her that our $900 TV would outlast the plasmas and that the swords would last forever and be a valuable asset for our children As time went by , she realised that I was correct and now we still have the swords and enjoy a $1000 65" flatscreen TV Win/Win situation ! :-) Merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone !
