Was looking forward to this… THANK YOU!… although tempered with the sadness that Miyano Sensei will only be able to assist ‘from the heavens’. Have too many items to submit and hard to narrow it down.

I appreciate this being organized and Chris Bowen and the Chicago Sword Show for facilitating it.  I have already reserved two "spots".  Going to bring two blades and see what happens!

Hello,

Here is an update for the NTHK NPO shinsha in April 2023:

It is my pleasure to announce that in conjunction with the Chicago Sword Show, set for April 28, 29, and 30, I will be sponsoring a NTHK-NPO Shinsa! We will be offering a mail in service once again for those unable to attend. Spread the word! This will be an event not to be missed by sword enthusiasts! Hope to see everyone there! Bringing this one to the top. I don't really have much stuff left to warrant getting a table but I do have odds and ends pieces, fuchi, kashira, tsuba, habaki, a couple tsuka, a few wakizashi and tanto saya, and a couple empty shira-saya. A company grade gunto tassel and a reproduction naval brown tassel. Please let me know if you want/need any of these items. I will be happy to send pics/measurements ahead of time, them bring the selected items along with me. My previous table buddy from las vegas, Roger Robershaw, has graciously allowed me 1 foot of his table to use...if needed.

I am bringing some items that I would only be willing to trade-up on;

Emura in good condition Type 98 mounts. Company grade tassel. (would be willing to sell outright too)

NTHK-NPO papered Tegai Kanekuni in excellent polish. In shirasaya but also comes with type 98 mounts. Company grade tassel. (Leather covered wood core saya)

Type 97 kaigunto with polished sharkskin saya. Wakizashi signed by sandai Kanesada in older faded but decent polish. Brown naval tassel.

Mumei tanto in koshirae. (waiting on NTHK papers to arrive) attributed to Bungo circa mid Muromachi period.

Plimpton collection Type 19 Kyugunto with Murata blade that has rare 2 thin hi per side and perfect wavy hamon. Field officer grade backstrap with brown/red tassel.

Look forward to seeing everyone there!

From Chris Bowen

"Friendly reminder!

The Chicago Sword Show and NTHK-NPO Shinsa are only 4 weeks away! We have very limited spots still available. If you have any intention of submitting a blade, tsuba, etc. for shinsa, either using our mail in service or in person, I can't encourage you strongly enough to contact me for reservations. Thanks to all who have already made a reservation. I am overwhelmed by the positive response! I will be sending out reservation tickets and submission instructions the end of the month. See more at: http://ejapaneseswords.com/Shinsa_Info.html"

Shinsa paperwork and tickets arrived in mail yesterday.  If you are submitting items, keep a lookout for your envelope.  Thanks to Chris B. and looking forward to the show.

I'll be at the show either Friday and then Sunday...or just Sunday...and have two shinsa tickets.  Going to post a "which to submit?" on the nihonto forum in the next few days to help me make a decision.  Only have three unpapered signed blades in my collection to decide between and then one signed tsuba that might be worth submission.

That was a good idea,  as I was on the fence on which blade to use my 3rd ticket on.   I mailed my box up there already but would have liked the board help choose!

I ‘think’ (and I use that term loosely:thumbsup:) the shinsa team started yesterday for mail-in items and for people who could drop off early?  I could also be completely wrong.  But the show officially starts today.

I've emotionally prepared myself to be dissapointed but still optiministically hopeful at the same time.   I view all my submission options being able to go either way.
