old military blade or just old chinese junk??

Ok, purchased with a pile of blades and not sure if a old 1890s early 1900s military blade or just a old chinese copy, certainly got age but possibly a very old copy, just putting it out there just incase.

Looks like someone tried to make a pole sword out of it.

Just for interest, the 5 kanji "signature" or owner's name, is SATO KOTARO.

Sato Kotaro is a netflix anime. 

 

For me 100% chinese deco.

 

Make a o-wakizashi from it. With a mei.

The kanji looks etched not chissled for me.

Think this WW2 general was the Sato Kotoku the fakers were  trying to go for, not the anime character . Thanks gents , obviously blades have been copied for a very long time as theres alot of age wear to the metal. Thanks George for the translation. Basically cost me nothing in a group of good blades sovasked the question.

Wow you guys are "on the ball"...I do not know anything about netflix or anime (whatever that is).

I only access sites that are of historic and intellectual value.
