Cookie4Monstah Posted December 13, 2022 Report Posted December 13, 2022 Greetings everyone, I would like share with you a mei on what is now a katana length sword. It seems like the there may be missing characters. Can anyone discern what the remaining kanji say? Also, is there an app that can pick up on kanji? I don't have the required reference material (literature) yet to start drawing my own inferences on this matter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Khalid Quote

reinhard Posted December 14, 2022 Report Posted December 14, 2022 The blade is signed with name and place on the sashi-omote and the nengo (date) on the sashi-ura. Famous Kagemitsu working in Osafune, Bizen province, during late Kamakura-period never did that. His Daito were always signed with a tachi-mei (i.e. the other way round). Going into details of the mei is therefore obsolete. This brings me to the question wether there is an app helping with kanji on swords. Even if there is one: If you don't know basics it won't be of much help. reinhard 3 Quote
