Okan Posted December 5, 2022 Report Posted December 5, 2022 Hey, Anyone saw this before? I've found one similar design which is a "US Army WW1 Engineer machete"..Hmm.. @ROKUJURO 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted December 5, 2022 Report Posted December 5, 2022 Okan, you are correct that it looks a bit Japanese, but I have never seen a knife like this in connection with Japanese knife making. You cannot be sure that the polish is a true HADORI or just a decorative KESHO polish. Sorry, but I have no clue! 1 Quote
Tensho Posted December 5, 2022 Report Posted December 5, 2022 Where is this located? Koshirae looks relatively "new" to me. I see no reason why it wouldn't be Japanese? I have seen some "interesting" looking bladed items come out of Japan. 1 Quote
ChrisW Posted December 5, 2022 Report Posted December 5, 2022 If that first item has hada and is traditionally forged, then I am a fan of it! From what I can see, it appears to at least have some activity. 1 Quote
Brian Posted December 6, 2022 Report Posted December 6, 2022 Just like knifemakers everywhere, the Japanese smiths must have occasionally played around and experimented just for fun. I can imagine a smith, having seen a machete, deciding to make one similar and do it better. There must be thousands of one-offs out there. Interesting piece, whatever it is. Don't think it's too old. 3 Quote
John C Posted December 6, 2022 Report Posted December 6, 2022 With the fat belly and curved handle, it looks a bit like a stylized Chinese Dao. John C. 1 Quote
