Noel Posted December 5, 2022 Report Posted December 5, 2022 This is one of two tsuba I found recently in a local shop. There are remnants of gold damascening on both sides but predominantly on the side opposite the mei, where you can see areas of cross-hatching. It measures 8.0 x 8.2 cm, 4 mm on the rim and 6 mm at the center. I have tried in vain to figure out this mei. Any help in trying to translate this mei would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Noel Quote

It has style elements of TEMBO, but is obviously a SHOAMI TSUBA. This school had very many variations. KO-TOSHO would have to be large and thin (1,5 to 2,5 mm), and the small SUKASHI elements are mostly representational and not abstract. KO-TOSHO TSUBA are never signed. Owner Dan o'Connor 1 Quote
