This is one of two tsuba I found recently in a local shop. There are remnants of gold damascening on both sides but predominantly on the side opposite the mei, where you can see areas of cross-hatching. It measures 8.0 x 8.2 cm, 4 mm on the rim and 6 mm at the center. I have tried in vain to figure out this mei. Any help in trying to translate this mei would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Noel

Noel,

your TSUBA could never be a KO-TOSHO. It has style elements of TEMBO, but is obviously a SHOAMI TSUBA. This school had very many variations.
KO-TOSHO would have to be large and thin (1,5 to 2,5 mm), and the small SUKASHI elements are mostly representational and not abstract. KO-TOSHO TSUBA are never signed.
