Bugyotsuji Posted December 1, 2022 Report Posted December 1, 2022 摩利支天武運長久 Kind of neat. Has anyone seen something similar? (One of the Koshiraé to be displayed at our local NBTHK exhibition at Osafuné next week. It will happen in conjunction with the Koshiraé of the Sanchōmō being shown in the museum building next door.) 4 Quote
Curran Posted December 4, 2022 Report Posted December 4, 2022 It says, "IF YOU CAN READ THIS, YOU ARE TOO CLOSE!" _________________________________________ Is that not the Buddhist Heart Sutra? I didn't look too close, but it looks rather familiar. Have I seen it before? Yes, on Norisuke tsuba. A collector in NY has a katana sized one. I'd like to own that one. 1 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 4, 2022 Author Report Posted December 4, 2022 Thanks Curran! Among the information of Marishiten and warriors, see this page: https://darumamuseumgallery.blogspot.com/2009/12/santen-marishiten.html?m=1 Quote
Curran Posted December 4, 2022 Report Posted December 4, 2022 AH. I was too slapdash. Marishiten and warriors. That is interesting. Wild boars or warthogs are my family emblem, plus the emblem of the graduate school the wife and I attended. Guido also was fond of the theme. I love to see them in art, from the cinghiale of Italy to the inoshisshi of Japan. 1 Quote
OceanoNox Posted December 4, 2022 Report Posted December 4, 2022 By the way, the tsukagashira, is it sen zogan or nunome zogan? Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 4, 2022 Author Report Posted December 4, 2022 It looks from the photo like hon zōgan to me, (not Nunome) but apologies, I have not come across the expression sen zōgan before. Like a ribbon or string inlay? 1 Quote

It seems to be considered a separate style of inlay (at least in the books I have read), and there is a chisel that is specific to it (it both makes the groove and raises the sides at the same time). Thank you for your answer, I thought maybe sen zogan for the flower, but I was very much unsure about the other one (is it grass?). Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted December 4, 2022 Author Report Posted December 4, 2022 This is not my tweet, and I have not yet seen the original Kashira. If you can wait, I will ask next weekend as I have to be there at the exhibition. Is the question urgent? Quote

The lines in this kashira look so fine (especially the grass) I was wondering if it was possible to do sen zogan with lines so close to one another. On a personal note, I prefer any zogan over nunome, as the gold/silver pieces do tend to fall off if there is any active rust. 2 Quote
