sascha1 Posted November 21, 2022 Report Posted November 21, 2022 I'm looking at this tanto offered for sale at a low price and was hoping to get thoughts from more experienced members. The cutting edge is seven inches. Thank you in advance for any help you could offer. Quote
kissakai Posted November 21, 2022 Report Posted November 21, 2022 Not my field but looks good for low price It will help to have a few more images of the blade and a full length image of the blade with every thing removed to see the shape which is important for the experts Also both sides of the tang with the hakaki removed Quote
sascha1 Posted November 21, 2022 Author Report Posted November 21, 2022 Thanks! Here are a few more pictures. Quote
Rivkin Posted November 21, 2022 Report Posted November 21, 2022 Showa, not the highest quality, Mino style. Quote
Brian Posted November 21, 2022 Report Posted November 21, 2022 Looks ok if cheap. Just make sure the boshi is there and doesn't run off. It's no masterpiece, but genuine. Quote

Peter Bleed Posted November 22, 2022 Report Posted November 22, 2022 I agree with the "Mino" call, but it is not Showa - and if the nakago was cleaned ( as it looks to have been) I'd say it is late koto. Show usthe tsuka... Peter Quote
AlphaRaider Posted November 22, 2022 Report Posted November 22, 2022 Neat piece, if it speaks to you grab it if you like it and the price is fair. Quote
Mark S. Posted November 22, 2022 Report Posted November 22, 2022 As was previously stated, remove the habaki (collar with the angled lines) and take some photos. It may give a hint at condition of blade and if polished down a lot or if there is damage to the hamachi area. Quote
sascha1 Posted December 2, 2022 Author Report Posted December 2, 2022 Dear members, Here is another tanto that I have come across that I would value your opinion on. Thank you in advance for any advice. Best wishes, Sascha Quote

Best wishes, Sascha Rather than offering an opinion on this tanto, may I suggest contacting the Nihonto (study) club in NYC ( https://www.ny-tokenkai.org/ ) and attending a meeting. Regards, 1 Quote

Regards, I highly recommend this! My take on that tanto, or what is left of one is that its basically a metal sliver at this point. But that's based on the few photos and being unable to see much detail. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 2, 2022 Report Posted December 2, 2022 The second Tanto is one to avoid, it has been poorly polished. Quote
