drbvac Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 I bought this on e-bay a while ago and although nothing spectacular, I wanted one as an example of the blade type so got this for a pretty fair price. One doesn't see very many around and it is a little longer than most that are seen. the pics are here and the document that was with the ken is on the translation site in the hope that someone can give me some idea what it says The Nagaso is 45 cm but I beleive this has been shortened. Saki habi is 3.1 cm, moto-haba is 4.2 and it tapers in the middle to 2.9. One mekugiana. It has some spider web rusting on part of the balde and I am wondering if it is worth a polish? Quote
Ted Tenold Posted June 7, 2009 Report Posted June 7, 2009 From the images, the polish doesn't look too compromised. Maybe a bit hazy, but not bad. I'm not seeing the spider rust you mentioned, but if it's growing, it'll need to be addressed. Maybe just addressing that issue rather than a complete polish is the best option. Takeo Seki is a polisher in BC Canada. He may be able to help you with it. I doubt it has been shortened. This is a fairly common length for these, and the nakago looks consistant to what would be expected from the period. Quote
