Kurikata Posted November 4, 2022 Report Posted November 4, 2022 Hi, I have plenty of questions about this tsuba: 1- What are the kanji meaning on the seals ? 2- I read the signature as Yoshi Hiro . Is it right? If so, Is it customary to sign this way and Is it a kantei point which might me know who was this artist ? Thank you for your help. Bruno 3 Quote
SteveM Posted November 4, 2022 Report Posted November 4, 2022 喜寛 Yoshihiro looks correct to me. Written in "seal script". Wakayama says he studied under Yasuchika 1st. This isn't a normal way to sign, but the theme of auspicious words written in "seal script" is not unusual to me, so the signature style is in harmony with the symbols on the tsuba. Unfortunately I can't read them 2 1 Quote
Infinite_Wisdumb Posted November 4, 2022 Report Posted November 4, 2022 Why is the nakago-ana shaped like something circular was mounted through it? Quote

This tsuba has been mounted several time on different blades. Last one was probably smaller than the former one and a copper add on has been set up to have the tsuba fixed closely with the blade. This former blade might be a pole arm , naginata, yari explaining the nakago ana initial shape. Quote
