Australian Guy Posted October 27, 2022 Report Posted October 27, 2022 Like the title says, I believe this is a Navy Kyu gunto, the blade is just chrome plated but in good condition. Perhaps the cloth tag identifies it, but any help would be appreciated. I apologise if it's in the wrong section in advance. Grant Quote

Bruce Pennington Posted October 27, 2022 Report Posted October 27, 2022 Grant, You don't show the backstrap, but everything else looks like the "1883 Sword for Officers with a Nine-leaf Guard" shown in Dawson's book, page 256. He states it was authorized for ranks of ensign through captain. Yours is the dress sword version. Quote
Australian Guy Posted October 28, 2022 Author Report Posted October 28, 2022 Hi Bruce, Many thanks for identifying the sword for me. Would a picture of the "backstrap" be helpful? Kind regards, Grant Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted October 28, 2022 Report Posted October 28, 2022 As a point of verification and just hobby interest. Navy kyu don't get a lot of 'air-time' around here. Quote
