Thanks Ray I’m thinking of having it polish but I hear negative stuff about this dealer and want to be sure iAlso is this smith known for making decent sword other than the wrong signature And because of the engraving I would think it’s more rare and adds more value ?

komonjo if the dealer Any added information would be greatly appreciate since I don’t to lose money

Hello and welcome,

Searching google or the nmb should give you some idea regarding the seller. The advice you'll probably get is to buy books. Please sign with your name.

If English isn't your first language, perhaps someone can help with communication. You can add a location to your profile.

On the sword. Not in good condition as far as the polish goes. Appears to have some rust and assuming it has no papers it's not worth what it might sell for on ebay. To underline: books.

Let me add: what I can see of the horimono does not look promising, clumsy, not well done. Almost certainly not a good prospect for polish. Take time to learn a lot more than you do now. No need for hurry; there will always be good Japanese swords to buy and the more you know before you purchase the happier you'll be with what you get.

Thanks guys I did some digging and dose day high class tamahagane read what I found to me looks promising?

Special feature : Bisyu Osafune Munemitsu was a second son of the Rokuro zaemon Sukemitsu and moved around Japan with his his older brother Katsumitsu.
Even though the signature is Bisyu mei but at that period all the swords were made by
high rclass Tamahagane(Japanese iron) so the blade is very nice Jigane and Hamon.
Akso beautiful wonderful engraving on the Ji.
I think the blade was used by religious ceremony or high ranking Samurai.

Also, I have seen this little ‘jump’ (see attached photo and red arrow) in the stroke mark of the kanji on a couple of blades (and from this seller).  Just wondering if it is at all common or could point toward gimei?  I ask for future reference.

Everything he sells is coming out of Japan because no one is interested in them there, but westerners will buy them. Also, I could have sworn I saw this blade listed for sale a while back already and it sold?

Having said all that, I have bought from him. And he sells exactly what is pictured from what I can tell. I bought an item from him that I was not completely happy with, which was an impulse buy, and wishful thinking on my part. I asked to return it and he said no problem, and offered to send me a return label(but I opted to pay myself as it was really my mistake) as far as the notorious ebay sellers go, I'd trust him a lot more.
