Agree. Front part of a katana or wakizashi. Awkward shape. Kozuka looks quite nice, but the blade looks modern or decorative, so the kozuka needs to be checked carefully.

Peter, as mentioned, very tough without having the full original sword with nakago, as that gives clues to the school.

 

We need really good clear shots of hamon and hada to even come up with maybes

KOGATANA blade seems to be mounted in a false way; cutting edge is on the wrong side. Looks like the blade of a fruit knife. 

SAYA and blade have different SORI.

Kogatana looks like it was made from a steak knife. I owned one, looked identical to yours. Was part of a victorian era knife set in display box. Real Japanese Kozuka with different blade. Won't comment on anything else other than the mekugi-ana looks "freshly" drilled. Unless I'm mistaken you can see the raised burr around the hole, even something clinging to it.
