sabi Posted October 4, 2022 Report Posted October 4, 2022 Good afternoon NMB! Have a few nice pieces here that need new homes, offering to the group at a discount before they're listed elsewhere. All prices include shipping to the USA, international buyers please contact me for a quote. PayPal F&F only please. First up is an Iga guinomi with a galaxy of firing effects that only un-glazed wares can provide. Made by the legendary potter Kei Tanimoto, who's works are getting snapped up very quickly. A gallery currently has one of his chawan listed at near $4k, and I'm asking less than half for this sake cup vs what it would cost you through the retail route. 7.1 x 5.9cm, includes the original box and paperwork. $170 ------ Next we have a teabowl from an artist who has devoted a lifetime to capturing the magic of kuro-Oribe. Ryuji Miwa's is a style all its own, and many are heavily influenced by a single Momoyama masterpiece that flashed from black to purple during its rapid cool down. Like its ancestor and inspiration, this bowl was gifted a mesmerizing array of firing effects. Areas of jet black slowly fade to plum and chocolate tones across the body, crawling to varying degrees along the way and developing a roughness that is sublimely tactile. A white overglaze in all the right places sparkles around the somber, scraped away nature-inspired motifs. A fantastic user or display piece, 9.6 x 9cm, includes the original box and paperwork. $260 ------ Lastly we have a bowl I've posted before, now back at a lower price after a buyer never followed through with their purchase. A wonderfully warped yet equally strong kuro-Oribe kutsugata chawan by Takemura Osamu. The mountain motif is expertly scraped away, and aside from an old Raku bowl that is impossible to compete with, this one feels the best in hand out of all other teabowls I've owned. It has everything you'd want save for the big name potter, which means it trades for a tenth or so of the price. 14 x 8cm, includes the original box and paperwork. $280 ------ Will do all three for $600 shipped to the USA, international will be plus whatever the cost is but I may be willing to cover some of it depending on the situation. Thanks so much for looking! Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional pics.
Toryu2020 Posted October 4, 2022 Report Posted October 4, 2022 Evan - do you ever see the works of Kohyama Yasuhisa? -t
sabi Posted October 4, 2022 Author Report Posted October 4, 2022 Hey Thomas! I'm familiar with his work but do not seek it out, a bit too sculptural for me in general. Honestly couldn't tell you how often they pop up etc.
Toryu2020 Posted October 4, 2022 Report Posted October 4, 2022 Thanks - I like his tokkuri - let me know if you come across one... -tom
Infinite_Wisdumb Posted October 5, 2022 Report Posted October 5, 2022 I would be honored to be the next caretaker of the Kei Tanimoto Evan. PM sent
