PNSSHOGUN Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 For sale is a very nice (and large) Type 98 with the special patent Iida latch/lock. This pattern was designed by the long running Iida Koendo store at the request of officers wanting to better protect their swords in the field from dirt and debris. The condition and quality of the Koshirae is excellent and you would be hard pressed to find a nicer example, especially with Mon and such large size. Interestingly the fittings do not bear the usual patent number or small loop on the Tsuba, indicating this is likely an early example of the pattern. Please see detailed photos of the fittings. The blade is a large Katana signed Hizen no Kuni Hironaga, also known as Masanaga (Hawleys 318/319). Lovely gold plate and Shakudo Habaki with Sakura Mon. Unfortunately the blade has a reshaped Kissaki, small chips, staining and a bend at the Monouichi. The rest of the blade is in OK polish. OAL: 42 inches Nagasa: 27 inches Price: 5100USD + shipping Offers welcome and I will accept trades for good Type 94 or early mounted swords with Mon. A donation to the board will be made upon sale.

Bruce Pennington Posted September 28, 2022 Report Posted September 28, 2022 Quite a collectable piece, John, in several ways! Worth having for the latch alone! Good luck on the sale.
PNSSHOGUN Posted October 1, 2022 Author Report Posted October 1, 2022 My initial price may have been rather ambitious given the condition of the blade. Lately Iida Koshirae by themselves have sold for 3000USD. The price is reduced to $4400USD + shipping
