Hi all. unfortunately i have a need to sell off my small collection of swords which I am finding it difficult to pass on to the family.

I am in Canberra and would be happy to discuss a sale to anyone able to visit me.

1: Wakizashi. (Papered) Soshu Ju Tsunahiro 10th Masahide.

2: Katana. (named and Papered) Inaba Toshizane. Hawleys 35 points Ref TOS 354, Connoisseurs Book P295 Minryusho Toshizane.

3: Shin Gunto in Army Koshirae, (named) Jima KaneNori 

4: Shin Gunto in Civilian Koshirae (named) Fujiwara Kaneshige, Includes hot stamp signifying I believe, made in the traditional method.

5: Tanto. no name may have been made up from a broken Katana (very Pretty) including Japanese Kanji on blade.

6: Knife. short including dragon on blade, in civilian Koshirae. lead to believe it may have been a wedding present.

your market is very norrow,  and photos are a must be cause fellow aussie based memebers could act as proxies for over seas buyers. 

BUT no-ones driving  interstate without photos first. even average photos will increase the size of the interested parties in involved

SOSHU JU TSUNAHIRO

I'm going a bit strange in my old age, sorry, spell check doesn't help.

 

The Wak has a few small forging floors but is in good polish, although not physically named, it went to Shinsa a few years back and received papers detailing the maker as I believe Soshu Ju Tsunahiro 10th Masahide.

I'm looking for $1550 Au but am negotiable for appropriate Tuba. Unfortunately it is for sale in Canberra as I wish the buyer to be completely satisfied with the purchase.

INABA TOSHIZANE

This Katana is papered to Inaba Toshizane also known as Minryushi Toshizane Connoisseur's Book P: 295 Hawleys 35 points Ref: TOS 354, I think I got that right.  It is in very good polish and contains a couple of pin size forging floors and a slight area on the cutting edge of the blade extending for 33mm which did not come up during the last polish. I'm asking $5000 Au which is what I paid some 10 years ago. This is only available for pick up in Canberra Au.

JIMA KANENORI

This Katana is from WW11 Shin Gunto signed I believe by Jima KaneNori. In need of a polish if desired.

contains a Seki Arsenal stamp 1943, complete with Officers Tassel.

I think the detail includes.

I believe the above refers to (Steel)

This Katana is also a  WW11 Shin Gunto in civilian mounts.Could do wit a polish but overall pretty good.

I may be taking a bit of license here but I believe the Kanji reads

1: Nosh (?)

2: Seki (Seki)

3: Ju (Resident of)

4: Fujiwara (Fujiwara)

5: Kaneshige (Kaneshige)

6: Saku (Made by)

The hot stamp suggests the katana was made using the Kobuse method) Traditional

This a very pretty Tanto, un-papered and un-named but in good polish.

Unfortunately I don't know anymore about this one

Small Tanto, no details but may well have been a wedding present, having been made from a broken Katana which I believe was quite common.

A bit loose on fittings and has some rust which has been managed since I hade it. Dragon Horimono on one side

Just wanted to clarify the smiths name is Kojima Kanenori.

 

And I believe the Kaneshige is not gendaito (traditionally made), at least from the photos provided.

Don't recall the name of the stamp, but it's a patent number referencing the use of Kobuse method. Soft core steel while the outside is hardened.

On this link Bruce seems to have compiled that same stamp multiple times. Referring to it as wrapped steel method. Seems they've all been found on only Kaneshige blades.

Width (Motohaba) 3.2cm / 1.25"

Width (Sakihaba) 2.2cm / 0.875"

Motokasane: 0.95cm / 0.375"

Sakikasane: 0.64cm / 0.25"

 

Hamon: Gunome Midare

Boshi: Komaru

Hada: Hard to tell

Nakago: Signed Noshu Seki Ju Fujiwara Kaneshige Saku with Seki stamp and hot stamp.

I figure this says: Made by Kaneshige Fujiwara resident of Seki

 

Hot stamp may suggest that the sword was forged in the new utility design using the kobuse method of construction (as you have suggested)

 

I believe this smith was very good and worked during the 1930's and 1940's

We are no longer certain the presence of the Showa and Seki stamps are signs of showato.  So it is possible the blades are gendaito.  As always, the blade must tell the story.

 

Interesting note on the Kaneshige blades with Kobuse stamp - I have 5 on file now, and the 3 showing koshirae are all civil mounts!  Interesting item!

I just happened across this thread, and was wondering if your Kaneshige piece had another stamp on the other side of the nakago. I have a piece by shoda masafusa like this, and... FWIW, the stamp you show is described in Slough's book (see attached)

 

I am not sure if the piece I have is oil quenched or not.
