Tensho Posted November 4, 2022 Report Posted November 4, 2022 I had a sword stolen 2 years ago. Not sure what ever happened as I got my money back from seller. Only item I ever had not show up from USPS. As was mentioned only way I would ship something of Value would be Registered. If that goes missing "someone" has some serious explaining to do. Quote
John C Posted November 4, 2022 Report Posted November 4, 2022 If anyone is using a door bell camera or CCTV, you can record the time the item was supposedly delivered and show that it wasn't. Maybe that can help with the insurance issue, at least. That has worked for me in the past. John C. Quote
Alex A Posted November 5, 2022 Report Posted November 5, 2022 Hate the way you have to declare the value on a package going overseas, think in this day and age that would be information only available to customs, its not rocket science. Open invitation to attract thieves. 1 Quote
O koumori Posted November 10, 2022 Report Posted November 10, 2022 On 11/4/2022 at 2:20 PM, O koumori said: Another stolen Nihonto in US Mail Last month I shipped a Bizen Tadamitsu wakizashi from Indiana to Naperville, Illinois, Priority mail, insured, signature required. I tracked the package, and it was 3 days late (past the expected delivery date). Then it showed up as “delivered.” Unfortunately, it wasn’t. The intended recipient never got it. He was home at the time of the reported delivery – nothing. The signature on the “Proof of Delivery” on the USPS website was indecipherable chicken scratches. Not a signature at all. I know the intended recipient. He is a trustworthy individual, and had been saving all summer to purchase the blade. When he contacted me to report the non-delivery. I filed a claim online with the USPS. Even though insured, they demanded proof of value for the claim. I provided evidence of the transaction (canceled check and bank deposit information), along with a description of the blade (in ‘laymen’s” terminology). The claim was rejected, because their records showed that “the item was delivered.” They never contacted the intended recipient, although I had provided all of his contact information. I have filed an appeal, but have little hope in the outcome. Dan K Stolen Sword.docx 1.46 MB · 7 downloads Expand FOUND! Through diligent work of the intended recipient with the Postmaster on the receiving end, it was determined that the package had been delivered to the wrong address. Although the person who received it made no attempt to return it, it has been recovered. Several unresolved issues here - but the important thing is that the blade has been found and restored to the intended recipient. Dan K 5 2 1 Quote

PNSSHOGUN Posted November 11, 2022 Report Posted November 11, 2022 From last year, it does appear that it was stolen out of the box. Quote
Brian Posted November 11, 2022 Report Posted November 11, 2022 Fantastic news. I'd like to see the guy who received it (stole it, since he didn't return it) get his ass kicked. Hard. But that's just me. 4 1 Quote
