zook Posted September 22, 2022 Report Posted September 22, 2022 Gents , I haven’t been on here in a while other than to look at some NCO chats, so I don’t know If this article from Facebook has been shared, but I felt it a compelling post that I wanted to share. I did a glance and didn’t see this posted elsewhere , but hopefully admin can delete if I have it wrong. Below is excerpt from Matthew Brice’s post: Copper Handle NCO Sword from the Plimpton Collection …( I believe being offered by St Croix blades, if I read the Facebook article posted by Matthew Brice correctly. ) The Japanese copper handle NCO sword photographed for John Plimpton's book Swords of the Emperor - A Guide to the Identification of Imperial Japanese Swords, 1873 – 1945. The sword and scabbard/saya have the matching serial number '871'. CONDITION: This Plimpton Collection sword is nearly mint. I hope everyone is well - cheers, Dan 2 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 22, 2022 Report Posted September 22, 2022 A very pleasant sight for the collector eyes! Thanks Dan! Hopefully, @Stegel and @Shamsy already have this serial number in their files. Quote

Kiipu Posted September 22, 2022 Report Posted September 22, 2022 This Type 95 sword is the lowest known to have a 東 inspection mark on the blade. Prior to this, only the serial number appeared on the blade. For example, see serial number 71 for a comparison. Type 95 Nco Copper Hilt 1 Quote

zook Posted September 22, 2022 Author Report Posted September 22, 2022 I am in agreement shamsy! …. Before I read the actual post I saw that scabbard color in the photo and had some initial “dark thoughts” (lol) …. My well used copper has a darker patina and like most Sayas’ of this variant, a bit of wear and patina which give it a darker and “worn” appearance that I prefer. It’s a beauty for sure! - but not for me. Quote

It also has the standard half-circle drag, as opposed to the horseshoe shape. Which is good, because it confirms what I've said previously about the transition occurring between 700 and 800. 1 1 Quote
