Baka Gaijin Posted September 16, 2022 Report Posted September 16, 2022 Good Afternoon Here’s a monumental Bronzed metal Vase (Usubata) allegedly brought to the United Kingdom from Japan at the turn of the Century c.1900 It stands 31 inches (79 cm) at its widest it is 24.5 inches (62 cm It’s unsigned I’d appreciate some opinions please. I’m dubious whether it is even Japanese. Quote
Alex A Posted September 17, 2022 Report Posted September 17, 2022 Hi Malcolm, know nothing of Japanese bronze vases but when i first looked at this the bottom and middle part definitely reminded me of some Japanese bronze lanterns that you see. Found this https://sutterantiques.com/japanese_bronze_vases/ I can believe its Japanese, wish i could help more. 1 Quote

Baka Gaijin Posted September 17, 2022 Author Report Posted September 17, 2022 Thank you Alex and Brian, An acquaintance of mine in the trade took one look at it and said Cuspidor............... Hmm..................... thought I, and approached a more erudite dealer, who suggested researching Chinese Gu. Gentlemen, the floor remains open to opinion Here’s how it looks today with my Top Hatted Assistant “Orvis” in the background……. 1 Quote
