Chris swords Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 Hi, does anyone have any information on this sword? Many thanks Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 Hi Chris, looks something like "Bizen kuni ju Osafune Sukesada" and then a date. There were dozens of smiths signing Sukesada during the Muromachi period, generally the longer signature and date indicate better quality work. There is a good writeup about the Sukesada smiths at the bottom of this page: http://www.samuraisword.com/nihontodisplay/Hozon/bizen_sukesada/index.htm Quote
ROKUJURO Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 BIZEN KUNI OSAFUNE (no) JU SUKESADA SAKU NENKI: X HO HACHI NEN NI GATSU HI Can't read the first era KANJI. Generally it is easier to read if you position the photos with the tip upwards. Quote
xiayang Posted September 8, 2022 Report Posted September 8, 2022 The date is 享保八年二月日 = on a day in the second month of Kyōhō 8 (i.e., 1723 CE). 1 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted September 9, 2022 Report Posted September 9, 2022 Hi I think your blade could be made by the younger brother and later successor of Kôzuke Daijô Sukesada. Read this https://www.nihonto.com/sukesada/ Can we see more of the actual blade ? Quote
