Jacques Posted August 26, 2022 Report Posted August 26, 2022 This exercise is only based on the hamon. Who produced these swords ? It can be one or two Swordsmiths. Both start with a sugu yakidashi. Please, leave the books aside, the hamon is easily recognizable. Quote
Alex A Posted August 26, 2022 Report Posted August 26, 2022 No books Sugu start, Off top of head id say Yokoyama Sukenaga but i know you dont like Edo stuff Quote
mdiddy Posted August 26, 2022 Report Posted August 26, 2022 Looks like Reveal hidden contents Tsuda Sukehiro or a shinshinto copy like Suishinshi Masahide or Ozaki Suketaka (maybe Chounsai Tsunahide/Tsunatoshi, but I don't think of their yakidashi as suguha) to my eye Quote
Bazza Posted August 27, 2022 Report Posted August 27, 2022 OTTOMH - naka kawachi no kami Kunisuke?? 2 Quote
Bazza Posted August 27, 2022 Report Posted August 27, 2022 OTTOMH 2nd guess - Echizen no kami Minamoto Nobuyoshi 1 Quote
Jacques Posted August 27, 2022 Author Report Posted August 27, 2022 One of you has part of the answer, but I would like you to motivate your answers, as one of my math teachers used to say, it is not the result that is important but the reasoning. Quote
Gakusee Posted August 27, 2022 Report Posted August 27, 2022 Some Tsuda Sukehiro look like that and even some Kotetsu Quote
Caracal Posted August 27, 2022 Report Posted August 27, 2022 Look like Sukehiro or Sukeano or Kanesada hamon? Quote
Ian B3HR2UH Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 I think that the first one is Suketaka who made hamon with a repeating pattern like that shown . Ian Brooks Quote
Brian Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 Yokoyama school kika choji. Sukenaga...Sukehira.. Quote
Alex A Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 Jacques, its only easy when you know the answer, usually the result of window shopping. Without books, not so easy, just going off memory. Its got Yokoyama written all over it, i cant remember off the top of my head such repeated pattern though. Sukenaga did a gunome, but maybe not like this. Quote

Expand Robert, It is indeed Sukehiro and Kanesada (Echigo no kami) but I would like you to tell me which blade you give to these swordsmiths (top ohigata or bottom one) and why because it is the important point of this little game. Caracal Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 Osaka Shinto - Toranba Three connected gunome in front t of the Yokote for Kanesade and for Sukehiro nioiguchi is wider and thicker…. Hope I have a little right...... Quote
Jacques Posted August 28, 2022 Author Report Posted August 28, 2022 Sukehiro sometimes produced blades with a less thick nioiguchi (example below). The design of both hamon is quite similar but Kunisada's has yahasu elements. These elements are always present in Kunisada's toranba even after he changed his name to Terukane. Yes the devil is in the details. In fact the goal of the game was to find Kanesada, the hamon of Sukehiro being too easily recognizable, and to say why. Thanks to all those who participated, being wrong is not serious and it allows to go on. Quote
Baba Yaga Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 You have to be extremely careful with Sukehiro and the "generation of Sukehiro" Quote
Jacques Posted August 28, 2022 Author Report Posted August 28, 2022 When it comes to the toran ba it is unnecessary to specify the generation, the shodai did not produce any. Quote
Alex A Posted August 28, 2022 Report Posted August 28, 2022 I think sometimes in these exercises it is important for those that are not correct to maybe show an example of what they thought was correct. You will see lots of similarities but sometimes obvious differences. Sometimes, very close. Cheers. Quote
