Infinite_Wisdumb Posted January 24, 2023 Report Posted January 24, 2023 how about this "Fishing Dog" theme? 2 Quote
Infinite_Wisdumb Posted January 24, 2023 Report Posted January 24, 2023 fits well with NMB Dog Corner Izakaya thread 1 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 Well I found the dog so far. A katamenuki. I have seen the fishing rod and dog/puppy in a few Japanese books - just a matter of finding the right book! Nice to note the little rabbit particularly as this is the Year of the Rabbit. 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 Dale, are you sure that is a dog? 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 (edited) Piers I have no idea - it has the same jacket, curled over tail and is that a bell on the top of the collar? I found this Obidome. The translation says "puppy" but it sure looks like a cat! http://ikedashigeko.jugem.jp/?cid=6 No worries I found the tsuba I was looking for, so we can ignore the Katamenuki [face is odd and why is it wearing sunglasses?] Can anyone translate the name of the book? I have it but I don't remember what it is called. Edited January 25, 2023 by Spartancrest new data 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 The book is Hyaku Tsuba 百鐔 (鍔), and the design is 玩具 Gangu = 'toys', no mention of the 'animal'. 1 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 江戸時代 玩具 犬猫に鈴 張り子 - 検索 画像 (bing.com) Running searches on Edo dogs, cats and bells pulled up these images of Komainu (half foo dog, half shishi origins) and Hariko toys of indefinite features. Binary? 1 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 Ha ha ha - I have just been looking at the same things - mainly Obidome - it is anyone's guess what the animals really are, one top right could even be a short eared rabbit and the three under it could be French bulldogs? 3 Quote

Jesse which advertising site did you find the "Toy dog & Fishing rod" tsuba? Ebay with the price tag of US $1,171.17 or Jauce/Buyee for 70,000 yen [approx.US $537.34] Is it some new rule that pieces are twice the price on eBay now? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/325502158557 https://www.jauce.com/auction/t1078354423 1 Quote

That guy is one of my favorite sellers. Nice sleuthing 1 1 Quote
rematron Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 Dale pointed this trend out to me as well. I guess the seller starts the bid lower on Yahoo and the eBay price is more of an accurate reflection of what the seller hopes to get for it? Quote
Brian Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 Isn't this just yet another case (there are tons) of a different seller listing things on eBay that are for sale in Japan, hoping to sell it there and then buy it cheaper in Japan and make a profit? 1 Quote
rematron Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 Oh, of course. That makes sense too. Just like seeing multiple listings of the same item and same photographs for items just on eBay.@Brian Quote
Spartancrest Posted January 25, 2023 Report Posted January 25, 2023 Well the auction on Jauce from OITA province has either been pulled or he sold it for the lower BIN price. The eBay listing is still running from TOKYO - I wonder if he bought it or will shortly be pulling his auction down if he can't supply? Personally I didn't like the way the "toy dog" was attached - too much solder? 1 Quote
