Henry Stewart Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Gentlemen; The new auction and chat site complete with bugs is now UP AND RUNNING AT http://www.Nihontoden.co.uk. Give it a look over and see if we can sort out the bugs of newness. The charges are merely to defray expenses. £3 to join for life, paid by all who join, then free chat thereafter for the life of the site; Auctions are £7 per entry including script and up to five photos; This site is in response to the pressure put on United Kingdom lovers, dealers and collectors of Nihonto. Its success or failure depends on you who nuber yourself in this description. Henry Quote
DirkO Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Hi Henry, I can but applaud this initiative But I'm unable to register ? First I though the birthdate was the snag, but it wasn't. My pwd and username or 6 characters or more. Any ideas ? Quote
DirkO Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Hmm already found the error I think. The pwd can not consist of merely 6 cyphers, it has to be alfanumeric ? That or the tel nr is mandatory ? Maybe it's a good idea to mark the mandatory fields ? The member fee isn't £3 btw, it's 3$ which is next to nothing (it's through PayPal !) Weird thing though, the payment went through - but my account hasn't been enabled yet, I think. I'm unable to log in. Sorry for all the remarks Henry, hope they're constructive ! What's keeping the rest of you lads of supporting this fine initiative ? Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Great Henry, good luck. I can't enter my DOB. I have tried all the ways to enter it as M/D/Y with letters and numbers. John Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Oh, I did not put the obliques. Thanks, John Quote
DirkO Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 OK, Found out I need to click the confirmation link in the automated mail before my account is activated (was it stated somewhere during the signup process ? if not, this could be handy to tell people) For some reason my payments are being cancelled, so I'm unable to test the log in. It keeps saying I need to pay, but when I do, it gets cancelled immediately. Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Jeepers, My user name entered was John A Stuart and paypal paid, but, the login space will only let me enter John A Stuar. So, it won'tlet me login. What now Henry? John Quote
DirkO Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 John, Did you also get a mail stating the payment was cancelled ? Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Gentlemen I sincerely apologise for any cock-ups; I am instructing the site constructors to pay immediate attention to your comments. Please stand by us we are brand new though this should be no excuse; hang on chaps I'm having a good go. Henry Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Dirk, No. I got a confirm which I did and it said confirmed, but, when I login it says I still have to pay. I am sure Henry will sort it out. John Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Gentlemen; Please continue your patience; most of you are shown as active users on the site. YOU BET iI'LL SORT IT OUT; IN THE PROCESS AT THE MOMENT; Henry Quote
DirkO Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Henry, We're not trying to put pressure on you :D We're simply testing so it'll be easier for the other users I know you'll fix the problems, and there's no rush (at least not from my side) Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Gentlemen The site builders are on to it now; It appears somebody has not closed a loop.whatever that means. Thank you for your continued patience, they are chasing the missing information now. I will keep you updated; Henry Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Hiya Henry, registered and paid, but get message order was cancelled.... any info on that? best wishes, KM Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Dear KM I'm dreadfully sorry about your experience; please stay with us my site builder is sorting things out now; what has happened is that in trying to sort out the Pay Pal coupling, a loop which should have been closed, wasnt; we have a note of occurences involving all our good friends and will deal with this soonest; Thank you for your patience Henrywasnt; Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 No problem Henry, i just think someone should accept the pay pal payment through paypal itself.. Best wishes, Henk-Jan KM Quote
Kevin Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 One problem for UK citizens - it's using the US date format of month/day/year. This may well throw folks who are used to using the UK date format of day/month/year. Either that or you'll get a lot of incorrect birthday dates. Kevin Quote
Kevin Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Next problem - I can't pay my registration fee because it goes straight to Paypal sandbox. It then asked me to confirm registration without having paid. I've confirmed, but still can't pay cos it goes to the sandbox. :-/ If you let me know which email to use, I'll send you a Paypal payment. Kevin Quote
Stephen Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 enery ill sign up, just waiting for some of the bugs to be taken care of. Quote
loiner1965 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 am with stephen on this.....let the teething problems sort themselves out first Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Gentlemen My sincere thanks for your forbearance. The great majority of mishappenings I am told are caused by an unclosed loop occasioned by a missing URL connected with PayPal. This has now been located and will be replaced 1st thing . All who have paid will be manually passed through and enabled to use the site. Finally, Deum Venitas I will come on here am. Henry Quote
loiner1965 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 i have a paypal account but not heard of paypal sandbox and it will not let me log in....using my normal paypal etc Quote
Kevin Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 loiner1965 said: i have a paypal account but not heard of paypal sandbox and it will not let me log in....using my normal paypal etc A sandbox, in this instance, allows you to test the workings of a payments system before it goes live. You can do all the things that you can do in the live system, but it won't charge credit cards or make payments. And it will only respond to the owners log in details. There are other uses of the term in IT security, but that's a different kettle of fish. The connection is that in both cases they are isolated from the live system. Kevin Quote
John A Stuart Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 It seems to be working alright now. John Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 8, 2009 Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 Dear KM Please extend patience a little while longer; The fault has been found and I have assurances from the site builder that it will be fixed this morning. All who wish to go on site will be put on by manually replacing a URL which has caused all the problems; I will keep you informed as soon as I get the go-ahead. I'm on to them on the telephone by the minute; Thank you for your understanding Henry Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 8, 2009 Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 Henry/John, my thanks for your kind wishes and observations;hopefully this will right what we feel to be a wrong; only time will tell. It seems we have lift off; Could anyone else try please. What is really wanted is an auction, anyone got anything to sell. Clearly there is fine tuning to do and that fairly quickly, such as format and what members of the site want. TELL ME GENTLEMEN;-----PLEASE!! This is my attempt, whats your suggestiions?? Good luck. Henry Quote
DirkO Posted May 8, 2009 Report Posted May 8, 2009 Henry, Everything seems to be working the way it should ! I agree that the real test will be live auctions. I might have some excess nihonto-books to shift. I'll try this evening ! How's the UK on importing nihonto ? Is it still possible to import something with a large cutting edge ? Maybe it's a good idea to put some legislative info up on your site ? Quote
Henry Stewart Posted May 8, 2009 Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 Dirk Will do, Ive recently imported two blades, one from Japan and one from the States Henry Quote
