Andygw Posted August 9, 2022 Author Report Posted August 9, 2022 Hi everyone! I got a barn fresh sword that is in WW2 mountings. It looks traditionally made with mei on tang. Any help on age and name would be appreciated. Unfortunately i forgot to take photos of the blade but it has a straight hamon. Some rust and staining. Quote
dkirkpatrick Posted August 9, 2022 Report Posted August 9, 2022 Firstly, try not to handle blade with bare hands, even if it needs to be polished anyway as finger print rust can go surprisingly deep. Translates to Hizen (no) Kuni Tadayoshi. I feel that this is gimei or fake at first blush because the large blackish shape of the Tadayoshi don’t apppear to resemble any known generation that I can see. Pictures can be very deceiving, try taking some a little more straight on with a little more light. Not sure it would change my mind but others may see something else. Good luck, Doug Quote
Andygw Posted August 9, 2022 Author Report Posted August 9, 2022 Thanks for Your imput Doug🙂. I know prices have sky rocket to crazy amounts in the U.S even for gunto swords.what would be an average cost if this is original mei and whats a rough price for a fake mei? Thank You kindly Quote

Shugyosha Posted August 9, 2022 Report Posted August 9, 2022 Normally only long swords - wakizashi and tanto follow the conventional format. Quote

Surfson Posted August 11, 2022 Report Posted August 11, 2022 Hard to answer your question. Even if we assume it is gimei. Does it have mounts? is that an unwrapped handle in the background? Are all the other mounts there? What condition is the blade in? Any fatal chips, hagire or bad pitting rust? Probably worth less than $1500 if gimei. Quote
