SwordGuyJoe Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 All, I ran across a sword on eBay that has number Kanji on the back of it and it reminded me that I have a Shin-gunto Nagamura Kiyonobu with something similar. On the reverse side of the nakago, is a Jyu (see 1st photo attached). I always thought it was nothing, until I saw the sword on eBay (second photo attached). Mine: eBay: Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Quote
Gunome Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Hi, maybe a serial number : 十 : 10 七 八 : 7 8 I have very few knowledge on gunto ... sorry Sébastien Quote
Jacques Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Hi, Maybe i'm wrong, but i've a bad feeling with these blades. Link please? Quote
Stephen Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 bit quesy on the first pix also, the second looks like numbers i have seen on a Mantetsu nakago-mune Quote
Jean Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 If it's a nakago picture, I agree with Jacques, it is not Japanese, vertical yasurime??? Quote
Jean Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Or a global picture is needed, too distorted, too partial. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 I am pretty comfortable on my Kiyonobu and confident that it is not a fake or something to make someone queasy, but you can see a larger pic here as well as more of the sword: http://web.me.com/joseph.kraninger/Joes ... bu.html#37 The symbol - if not a jyu - is very small, maybe a cm in size. SwordGuyJoe Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 Additionally, Larry took a look at this and I think if it looked off for any reason he would have told me. Pics should tell the story well enough. Off topic, how do you get a good pic of the hamon? I have tried a couple different ways with less than successful results. Quote

I'm not a photographer in anyway but try many different angels and use the light as much as possible. A good angle in a dark enviroment with a good flash can sometimes reveal much. Quote
Jean Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Nothing I can say, I am not at all familiarized with this kind of sword, but from the pictures It seems that there is no yokote, I don't see any hada ,the hamon is indistinct, the nakago jiri has been grinded but perhaps it is the norm on this kind of blade but is it a traditionnal one??? I am a newbie in this field Quote
