samurai1 Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 UNABLE TO REMOVE LEATHER COVER SHRUNK TIGHT IN PLACE. WHY WOULD I WANT TO REMOVE? Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Because if you are lucky, and if the leather is not glued on, the entire saya is covered in black rayskin, which greatly adds and enhances the sword... KM Quote
Grey Doffin Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Be very careful with this blade. Without the tsuka and mekugi to lock it in place, the blade bottoms out inside the saya and the kissaki is easily broken. 2 blocks of wood with holes bored in the right places, and a dowel through those holes and the mekugi-ana in the nakago, the whole held together with a stout rubber band, will limit the travel of the blade into the saya. Brian Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Please sign all posts with a name as per the rules, listen to Grey's advice, and also know that there is almost NO chance a new tsuka (handle) is going to fit this sword. They are all hand fitted and not swappable without a lot of fitting. You would need a professional to make it fit or make a new one for you. They might strip a tsuka for all the fittings, make a new wood core and they replace the fittings. Brian Quote
