Spartancrest Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Can someone tell what this guard is? https://www.jauce.com/auction/l1059590351 Quote
C0D Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 My guess seeing the oxidation and the construction is that probably comes from a statue 1 Quote
Alban L Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 Yes looks like oxidized copper, could be from a statue. Very original object ! 1 Quote

The sheet metal front and back with 'bracing bits' is THE cheapest form of tsuba making. I have a couple of such swords... BaZZa. 1 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 4, 2022 Author Report Posted August 4, 2022 Thanks guys. The only one like it I have seen before was hiding some Christian items inside it. For the Eagle eyed you might notice the 'nail' through Jesus's ankle acts as the pivot to open the lid - handy so the cross won't rattle and give itself away. 1 3 Quote
Spartancrest Posted August 4, 2022 Author Report Posted August 4, 2022 Another one, but it may be just an inkpot made to look like a tsuba rather than the other way around. By the way what is the European standing on? A pier or some school boy anatomy scribble? 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted August 4, 2022 Report Posted August 4, 2022 This TSUBA is obviously made the same way as a TSUBA for a SHITOGI TACHI. It could have been made for a cheap tourist sword, but might also be older. Looking only at photos, I can't make a guess. 1 Quote
