Mainegundealer Posted August 1, 2022 Report Posted August 1, 2022 I may have posted this in the wrong place so I will post here. Trying to get this translated. This is stamped on an 1853 Enfield barrel. Is there anyone that can help? Fred Quote

Mainegundealer Posted August 1, 2022 Author Report Posted August 1, 2022 Thank you very much. I believe this was used in the Boshin War and now possibly the Satsuma Rebellion. The lock is dated 1867 but not sure when it came to Japan. Quote
Brian Posted August 1, 2022 Report Posted August 1, 2022 The Belgian proof suggests that this was not made in the UK like it is trying to be. They copied everything. 1 Quote
Alex A Posted August 1, 2022 Report Posted August 1, 2022 Remember reading this some time ago, about British contracts with Liege https://collegehillarsenal.com/Fine-Belgian-Made-P1853-Enfield-by-OP-Drissen-of-Liège Quote
Brian Posted August 1, 2022 Report Posted August 1, 2022 Yeah, just I think they wouldn't not have been allowed to use the Tower Crown symbol if not made there. I could be mistaken. Maybe @IanB has some input Quote
Mainegundealer Posted August 1, 2022 Author Report Posted August 1, 2022 Yes it is a Belgium copy they made them for British military contracts (V.R. marked) and for other countries. It was made in 1867 but not sure when it entered Japan. I might take it out of the stock and see if there is more info underneath. Japan did a lot of trade with Belgium but during that time everyone was trying to make money on selling Japan arms. Their was a lot of trading companies moving arms. Quote
