Toryu2020 Posted July 29, 2022 Report Posted July 29, 2022 A new area for us "sword swingers" to discuss, weapons, hoplology, martial traditions, famous swordsmen and techniques. I am a member of various other forums on the same subject, as I am sure many of yall are. Still I do not mind revisiting old ideas, since this is our favorite subject and the study of sword and culture is the warrior way! -tch Shichi-Dan MJER 6 Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted July 30, 2022 Report Posted July 30, 2022 Here's a good article to start this off: https://kogenbudo.org/can-study-groups-work-for-koryu/ Written by Ellis Amdur, one of my admins on e-budo.com, it's a closeup look at how ryūha weren't exactly popular, after the Meiji Restoration, & WWII, but have come back, at least partway, thanks to budoka like us. How far do you want to carry this, Tom? Like you, I've trained in several martial arts, two for more than 70 years. I have 30+ years in MJER (yondan), but are we limiting this thread to the use of Nihonto? Ken 1 Quote

Toryu2020 Posted July 31, 2022 Author Report Posted July 31, 2022 Good stuff ! I have no real plans Ken - just wanted to create a space where folks could talk about MA, using live blades and god forbid antiques! without getting yelled at. I am not limited to swords so why should this spot be? Have at it guys this can be whatever it wants to be no moderators here... -t Quote

Baka Gaijin Posted August 6, 2022 Report Posted August 6, 2022 This is a document of the first major Budo demonstration taking place in 1950, shortly after the final the ban on Martial Arts was lifted. Here's a huge amount of information on the reality of the levels banning compiled by Joseph Svinth and Jason Couch: I've been told various fairy tales over the years, both here in UK and also in Japan of exactly what went on regarding training during the Occupation, the article is concise and authoritative and puts to rest quite a lot of urban myths With due recognition to the EJMAS, where the article reside along with a positively monumental amount of other information on Budo and Bujutsu: https://ejmas.com/jcs/jcsart_svinth_1202.htm 2 Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted August 13, 2022 Report Posted August 13, 2022 A recent discussion on a Facebook group devoted to Koryu mentioned Hoten Ryu and its varied syllabus using unorthodox hidden weapons (Hibuki): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hōten-ryū?fbclid=IwAR24RyGFcDXvPlUk5jqKkUP21oFgoZDwnuVzieIGqS1k8FdSGqD4dsct0wQ https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1hW411673R/?fbclid=IwAR0MFoCJ0LAFIRB3mOAeRNePxls8NslUKbnLO8VQ4zB7Tog7LZG8gjF2cEg Quote
