b.hennick Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Not my kind of thing. I would rather have a sword he owned than his calligraphy. Quote
DanBaker Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Lucky person whoever baught it! It would compliment any nihonto collection very nicely!! Does anyone know how much it sold for out of curiosity? Cheers, Dan Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted December 4, 2006 Author Report Posted December 4, 2006 I dont think we will ever know hehehehehe... i think you can buy a few nihon-to from it... only thing is that (if the buyer is not Japanese) the govt and musea were very very dumb if this got out of the country and was lost to the people of Japan.... we are not talking about a woodblock print here....... KM Quote
DanBaker Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Yep, it will be interesting to see if it got out of Japan. Either way though, I hope it doesn't just dissapear into the buyer's collection... I hope the buyer will allow it to be appreciated by others also Quote
Brian Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 Well..if it was still for sale this morning..and has been for sale for a few weeks, then I would maybe like to think that we have some serious lurkers here with serious interests and money KM..maybe you should email Toraba and ask for your commission...LOL Brian Quote
Bungo Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 other than the famous name, honestly i don't see too much art talent in the one that used to carry straw sandles for Nobunaga.......... milt THE ronin Quote
Bungo Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 just so i don't sound like an elitist ........... the seller has the same idea too............. " Though clearly his promotions lead to an increasing need to be schooled to a degree in reading an writing, to the end of his life, Hideyoshi lacked skill in these areas, though was not completely incapable of either as is sometimes thought. I think it is quite interesting to note how simple Hideyoshi's kanji character script is, which is clearly quite unsophisticated, having strong similarities to the characters written by a an adolescent. This would be in keeping with his level of abilities and generally unrefined background and education. The image and script may very well actually represent a work produced during a lesson to improve Hideyoshi's literacy, though this is only spectulation on my part " amen !! milt THE ronin Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted December 6, 2006 Author Report Posted December 6, 2006 Even though this is of course a valid argument, it doesnt mean it is not a thrill to own something made by a well known general!! if you would find yourself a sword/tsuba owned by Uesugi Kenshin, fully documented and papered wouldnt you be happy? KM Quote
Bungo Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 actually I wouldn't mind a love letter from Napoleon to Marie Walewska............... milt THe ronin Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted December 7, 2006 Author Report Posted December 7, 2006 well They are! still around!!! Id rather pay a lot for such a letter than for any dress worn by any celeb... KM Quote
Nobody Posted December 7, 2006 Report Posted December 7, 2006 Though this tanto is not for sale, it was owned by Toyotomi Hideyoshi (豊臣秀吉). Its mei is Chiku shu ju Sa (筑州住 左). It was made in circa 1330. http://www.nona.dti.ne.jp/~sword/katana/1samonji.htm Quote
