Type 98? info & opinions please..

Looking at buying this and would like people's opinion on pictures supplied.. I realize you can't tell much from these photos but Will add clearer pics when the seller sends them..  brought home from New guinea after WW2.

 A lot of older blades were taken to war, and very few of them were heirlooms. For the most part they were donated by families to the military, or bought from specialist dealers. There are some detailed conversations on this forum about the subject.

Yes, the fittings are Type 98.  Can't see the tassel clearly enough to know for sure, but looks like a blue/brown of a company grade officer. 

 

If you pick it up, please post better pics.  Looks like a large "W" stamped on the nakago?

Bruce have looked and looked and cant see it....can you point it out in some way?

 

• Pierced Tsuba = nice.
• I believe this has an earlier aluminium saya.
• From the first pic of the nakago (5 of 5) the mekugi ana seems to be quite clean however the rust has ravaged the edges of the nakago quite badly to the point of it being quite misshapen. I find that interesting.
• Is it mumei or has the rust just taken its toll on any mei?  My guess is mumei.
• finally, does anyone know why the ashi is mounted so high?

Certainly a piece of WW2 history.

Here it is John. Might be just scratches and due to out-of-focus, looks like a 'W'
