thanks in advance. i was going to skip asking as the habaki is not that well made so i figure maybe it is nothing, but it would be nice to know

thanks!   does it have any meaning?  maybe the name of the owner or similar?  seems a bit unusual. appreciate it

Hi Mark, Motosato/Motozato is indeed a surname. Unfortunately I'm not able to decipher the last character on the reverse side and I'm unsure of the meaning.

I think its あきら (Akira), a man's name. I think the ら is made difficult to read by indents in the habaki which are unrelated to the engraved name. 

 

So the whole thing is a name: Motosato Akira (could also be Motozato).
