This was a WW2 bring back, actually by a US Marine.  It was found wrapped with a Japanese rifle also brought back from Japan.

Thanks in advance.

The blade on this previous Katana, potentially Fujishima Tomoshige, was poorly sharpened in the pass which is sad.

I have another Katana which i could use some help with translation.  This is my very first acquisition which started me on the path to collection.

You can see that the tip is chipped/missing . . .still razor sharp though

Nothing on the reverse side of the tang  :-)

I will include pics of the complete sword and blade

That’s my try….

”尾州浅野住真野國泰鍛之”

…seems to be Mano Kuniyasu?!

(If I’m right, then it reads: “Bishū Asano Jū Mano Kuniyasu kore o kitaeru”)

Is there a good meaning for Bishū Asano Jū Mano Kuniyasu kore o kitaeru

besides the name of the artisan?

Thanks

Have to be honest, this looks like a fake. And if it is real, it has a lot of quality issues.

Ed,

in case you are purchasing blades on a trial-and-error base you are certainly correct. But with some reading and comparing (= schooling your eyes), you should be able to avoid blades like the second one and have more fun with the good ones.
