Hi Guys,

Would like some opinions on this one as to which Bizen school this blade could be from. It is o-suriage and has a lot of activity in the hamon.

I was thinking along the lines of it being sue Bizen maybe Sukesada given the crab claws in the hamon.

Cheers, Mark

No one have any thoughts on this one?

There is an Omiya Bizen blade on eBay at the moment that looks to be to have a lot of similiar hamon characteristics. So could that be a possibility? Or could it be Bungo work perhaps?

Please provide the pointer to the Omiya blade on eBay.

I do not think yours is Omiya. Though Omiya has mune temper sometimes, usually it is more to the front of the blade. Your blade appears to have it all along. Also, the temper line is a bit complex for Omiya. Omiya temper can have considerable activity, but is usually more subdued- "stormy ocean waters" but not quite the more chaotic activity I see on your blade.

As to what it is, my knee-jerk reflex is more towards 1500s- but my Nihonto knowledge is mostly strong in a few schools and falls away quickly outside of that. I'm better at saying this is not Omiya Bizen than I am at helping identify it.

Good luck.

Hi Mark,

Not Omiya to me either, wrong boshi. A kantei point for Omiya is a type of choji (Bukuro Choji if I remember correctly) it looks like a bag thrown over a shoulder. The yakiba is too tall in the ji for Omiya to me.

From your images, it looks like there's masame in the shinogi. That with the boshi, and the shape point me to Shinto period. Maybe Kanewaka school stuff? That thick muneyaki is a bit confusing though.

Best I can come up with.

Thanks for the replies, I will post the link to the omiya wak on ebay when I get back from work (eBay is blocked here). I am pretty sure it had Omiya in the title so if you put that into the search then should be the only thing that comes up. I will have a look round to see what you mean about the boshi.

I am thinking of sending it to have the finishing of the polish restored as on one side all you can see is the shape of the hamon no activity, the other side you can see some of the activity as shown in the pics but the hada is not very clear.
